The Shinnecock Nation has invited the community at large to its annual powwow, a celebration of Native American culture, from Friday through Monday on its tribal grounds at 1 Church Street in Southampton. This year marks the tribe's 76th powwow.

Participants in dance and drumming competitions will vie for $50,000 in prizes, which will be awarded at 6 p.m. on Monday. There will also be handmade goods, food, and souvenirs for sale from dozens of local and regional vendors.

"Cultural enrichment and the opportunity for cultural education abounds as Native American representatives from every region are available to demonstrate and share their stories to all who ask," the tribe writes on the event website, shinnecockindianpowwow.com.

Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for children, senior citizens, and military personnel. Children under 5 get in free. There is no charge for parking. Pets are not permitted, with the exception of service animals. It is a drug and alcohol-free event. Gates open at 3 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Sunset fire-lighting ceremonies will take place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
