Weather permitting, Andy Sabin of the South Fork Natural History Museum will head up a search for the blue-spotted salamander at the vernal ponds near Montauk's east overlook on Route 27 on Saturday evening at 7:30. Mr. Sabin is president of the museum. The walk will take place only if there have been heavy rains; boots and flashlights are recommended. The fee is $15 for adults and $10 for children. Members can join for free. Registration is at [email protected] or 631-537-9735.

Hikes to the seal haul-out site at Montauk Point State Park will happen on Saturday at 11 a.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. The meeting place is the state park office in the lower parking lot at the Montauk Lighthouse. There is a $4 charge per person for the three-mile guided walk; children under 3 are free. Reservations are required at 631-668-5000. Participants are asked to arrive 10 minutes before the start time.

Rick Whalen of the East Hampton Trails Preservation Society will lead a four-to-five-mile Montauk Point loop hike to the seal haul-out and Mooney Pond trails, as well as sections of Point Woods, on Saturday at 10 a.m. The meeting place is the Point Woods trailhead on Camp Hero Road. Food and liquids are suggested. Mr. Whalen can be reached at 631-275-8539 or [email protected].
