As Covid-19 surges anew on the East End, Stony Brook Southampton Hospital has once again suspended most visitation privileges.

The rule took effect Friday and impacts general admissions and emergency department patients. A press release noted a handful of exceptions, including pediatric patients, people who are in "immediate end-of-life situations," and those for whom a support person is deemed "medically necessary."

"While we recognize the positive health benefits a visit from a loved one or friend can have on a patient’s recovery, the safety and well-being of all our patients and our staff is our first priority," the hospital said in a statement.
