The time is near, East Hampton Town residents, to secure your 2026 permit to park at East Hampton Village beaches.
The one-day, in-person sale for town residents is on Tuesday at the Emergency Services Building on Cedar Street. The doors will open at 7 a.m., with the sale starting at 9. The price is $500 per permit. The permit is required to park at Main, Georgica, Egypt, Wiborg’s, and Two Mile Hollow Beaches during the summer season, May 15 through Sept. 15 (possibly until Columbus Day if the village approves an extension of the season).
“There’ll be someone here to hand out tickets that will let you come back in first at 9 a.m.,” Mayor Jerry Larsen said at the village board’s meeting on Friday. “It worked out very well the last two years, so we’re going to continue with that.”
Those planning to buy a full-season permit must complete and take an application, which is available at bit.ly/4b9XUc7, along with a check made payable to Village of East Hampton; a valid vehicle registration in the taxpayer’s or renter’s name only; a driver’s license or other photo identification, and proof of town residency. For the latter document, property owners should provide a town tax bill; year-round renters should take their lease and three utility bills with their town service address.
One additional permit may be purchased on behalf of another individual. “Some people came in last year and purchased 10,” the mayor said on Friday. “We’re not going to allow that this year. This way, we don’t run out, and it gives everybody a fair opportunity to get them.”
“The idea, when we set this up, was to give locals the opportunity to get these before they go for $750 each” in an online sale that starts next month, the mayor said. “It turns out people were sending their caretakers, and that was definitely not the idea behind this. If you can afford a caretaker, you can afford to pay the $750.”
Nonresident permits are nontransferable and nonrefundable. The snow date for the in-person sale is next Thursday.
The online sale for full-season nonresident beach parking permits will start on Feb. 2 at 9 a.m. As the mayor stated, the online purchase price is $750; a 6-percent credit card fee will apply. The link will not appear on the village’s website until the sale begins. Those planning an online purchase have been advised to have their car registration and payment information available when buying. Following the purchase, buyers will receive an email with the permit number. The status must state “paid.”
Between the in-person and online sales, a total of 3,100 nonresident full-season permits will be available.
An online sale of monthly nonresident beach parking permits will start on May 1 at 9 a.m., at which time a link to purchase will appear on the village’s website. Just 500 nonresident monthly permits will be available for sale per month. Monthly permits are digital only, and linked to the buyer’s license plate number; there is no physical permit to attach to a vehicle. Parking will be enforced by a license plate scanner.
The price for permits valid from May 15 through June 30 is $250. For permits valid from July 1 through July 31, and those valid from Aug. 1 through Sept. 15, the price is $300. As with full-season nonresident beach parking permits purchased online, buyers will receive an email with the permit number, and the status must state “paid.” These permits are issued to one person and vehicle only and are nontransferable and nonrefundable.
Daily beach parking permits for Lot 2 at Main Beach and for Two Mile Hollow Beach will be available for $50 per day, via the ParkMobile app only. Daily permits will be available Monday through Thursday indefinitely, but daily parking Friday through Sunday and on holidays will be at the discretion of the beach manager. Payment for a space can only be made after the space has been secured; prepayment is not permitted, and no refunds will be given. Daily permits are also digital and linked to the buyer’s license plate number.
