It was while screening potential candidates for East Hampton Town Trustee as a member of the town Democratic Committee that Tim Garneau became interested in running for the post himself.

Politics makes strange bedfellows, and in East Hampton, this year there may be no stranger political couple than East Hampton Town Justice Lisa R. Rana, a lifelong Republican, and David Gruber, a Democrat who is running for town supervisor but not on the Democratic line.

The Suffolk County Board of Elections agreed to a request from the East Hampton School District to move a polling site from the John M. Marshall Elementary School to the district office at the high school.

While donors prepared to greet President Trump at Sandcastle, Joe Farrell's 17,000-square-foot house in Bridgehampton, and at a Southampton event hosted by Stephen and Kara Ross later in the afternoon, more than 100 people gathered on the Water Mill Green for a peaceful protest organized by the Progressive East End Reformers. 

Campaign reporting data compiled from the Federal Election Commission’s website had some surprising statistics this week. Since December, Pete Buttigieg, the mayor of South Bend, Ind., has received more individual donations from Southampton to Shelter Island than any other presidential candidate, Democrat or Republican — ahead of President Trump by a double-digit margin.     

With a segment of the donor class camped on the South Fork this month, President Trump is to attend fund-raisers tomorrow at a Bridgehampton house owned by the developer Joe Farrell and at the Southampton house of the developer Stephen Ross and his wife, Kara Ross.     

Nancy Goroff, chairwoman of the university's chemistry department, aims to face Representative Lee Zeldin next year on the Democratic ticket.
