For over 30 years, The 24 Hour Plays has met a singular creative challenge: to bring together artists from theater, television, film, music, and comedy to write, rehearse, and perform new plays in 24 hours.
New plays will be created for Guild Hall Thursday and be performed Friday at 8 p.m. Playwrights, directors, actors, and production teams will get together without scripts, sets, or rehearsal today in order to present six new productions to a live audience.
The creative team includes the directors Tom Caruso, Neil Patrick Harris, and Pippin Parker; the playwrights Josh Koenigsberg, Amanda Green, Sofia Alvarez, and Ron Carlivati, and the actors David Burtka, Gideon Burtka-Harris, Ron Guttman, Rebecca Salzhauer, Jaime Rosenstein, Lois Robbins, William Popp, and others to be announced. Max Vanderbeek is the musician, and Colin Cosell the M.C.
Tickets are $104 to $139.
Saturday night at 8, Guild Hall's "G.E. Smith's Portraits" series will feature Patty Smyth and John McEnroe for an evening of music and storytelling.
G.E. Smith is known for his work with Bob Dylan, Hall & Oates, and "Saturday Night Live," while Smyth, a Grammy nominee, is the voice behind Scandal's hit "The Warrior" and "Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough," a duet with Don Henley. As for McEnroe, he is not just a tennis icon but also a connoisseur of rock and blues — and Smyth's husband.
A handful of tickets remain for $92, $157, and $218.
Andrew Sean Greer, the author of seven works of fiction, including the Pulitzer Prize-winning "Less," will be at Guild Hall next Thursday at 7 p.m. to celebrate the publication of "Villa Coco," his new novel, in conversation with Derek Blasberg, a writer and cultural commentator.
In "Villa Coco," a broke young American with no sense of direction takes on a mysterious role at the Tuscan villa of the formidable Baronessa known as Coco. Charged with cataloging her vast collection, he faces eccentric tasks, colorful guests, and Coco's audacious final plan.
After the conversation Greer will sign books, which are included with each $62 ticket.
"Neil deGrasse Tyson: StarTalk Live!" — set for Sunday at 7 p.m. — is sold out.
