A summer fixture at Guild Hall, “Celebrity Autobiography,” will return to the theater with two performances Saturday evening, at 7 and 9. Created by Eugene Pack, an Emmy Award nominee, in Los Angeles in 1998, and developed with Dayle Reyfel, the Drama Desk Award-winning show features stars acting out unintentionally amusing passages from other stars’ memoirs.
Over the years, the passages have included the poetry of Matthew McConaughey, the confessions of Miley Cyrus, and perhaps the most famous love triangle in modern history — Elizabeth Taylor, Debbie Reynolds, and Eddie Fisher — told from all sides. The show has been cited as a critics pick by The New York Times, Time Out London, New York Magazine, Time Magazine, and The New Yorker.
The Guild Hall celebrity cast includes Scott Adsit (“30 Rock,” “Big Hero 6”), Craig Bierko (“Scary Movie 4,” “The Music Man”), Christie Brinkley, Jackie Hoffman (“Only Murders in the Building”), Richard Kind, Carson Kressley (“Queer Eye for the Straight Guy,” “RuPaul’s Drag Race”), Sherri Shepherd, and Mr. Pack and Ms. Reyfel. (The cast list is subject to change).
Tickets to each show range from $78 to $136, $71 to $123.50 for members.
Guild Hall’s Academy Icons series, which spotlights its Academy of the Arts members and their work, will feature an evening of music, stories, and insider perspectives on Sunday at 7 p.m.
The program includes Jeffrey Seller, a Tony Award-winning producer (“Hamilton,” “In the Heights,” “Rent”) and newly inducted Academy member; Adam Pascal, an actor and singer (“Rent,” “Aida,” “Something Rotten!”), and Seth Rudetsky, a musician, actor, and radio host who created and co-wrote “Disaster!”, a Broadway musical comedy, and co-hosts SiriusXM’s “On Broadway.”
Mr. Seller will share insights from his new book, “Theater Kid,” a memoir of his rise from young theater enthusiast to one of Broadway’s most influential producers. Library Journal called it “a captivating memoir” and praised his behind-the-scenes accounts of the business.
With Mr. Rudetsky moderating and at the piano, and Mr. Pascal singing, the evening will add live performances to Mr. Seller’s reflections on the making of his groundbreaking productions, with a special focus on “Rent.”
Tickets range from $86 to $121, $75 to $110 for members.
