The Hampton Theatre Company in Quogue will bring back “A Christmas Carol: A Live Radio Play” this weekend, for its third consecutive holiday season, with three performances.
Adapted from the Charles Dickens novel by Joe Landry, a playwright who has six radio plays to his credit, with music by Kevin Connors, the production, which runs 45 to 60 minutes, recreates the energy of a 1940s-era radio troupe, complete with music and sound effects generated onstage and in the booth.
Presented as a Christmas Eve installment of WBFR’s weekly “Playhouse of the Air” series, “A Christmas Carol” serves up the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, the miser from London who learns the meaning of charity and kindness, thanks in part to visits from the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future.
The cast includes Andrew Botsford, Rosemary Cline, George A. Loizides, Nicholas Auletti, Scott Butler, Stephanie Moreau, and Lindsey Sanchez, each of whom will play multiple roles and present vintage radio commercials, performing in period costumes. The setting is the studio of the fictional New York City radio station.
The production is directed by Mr. Botsford, with incidental music recorded by Dee Laveglia, lighting by Sebastian Paczynski, and costumes by Teresa LeBrun.
Performances will take place at the Quogue Community Hall on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Patrons have been encouraged to arrive 30 minutes before the performance, when complimentary hot cocoa and cookies will be served. A singalong will cap off the evening.
Tickets, at $18, are available from hamptontheatre.org or by calling 631-653-8955.
