"The She-Wolves," a new work by Kate Mueth and the Neo-Political Cowgirls, will be performed from next Thursday through Aug. 11 in the Edward Albee Amphitheater at LongHouse Reserve in East Hampton.

The performance uses Shakespeare's text and characters, dance, music, and images to create a modern-day fairy tale. The spirit of Sycorax, an unseen character from "The Tempest," is holding a competition, to be judged by the audience, to crown her replacement so that her spirit can finally be set free. Each night there is a winner -- but what happens to the losing women?

The production, which has an all-female cast, was devised and directed by Ms. Mueth and written by Ms. Mueth and Emma Tattenbaum-Fine. Choreography is by Violet Spann, Vanessa Walters, and Ms. Mueth, costumes by Yuka Silvera and Sarah Azzara, lighting by Jason Amis, set design by Karyn Mannix, projections by Nina Rayburn Dec, fight choreography by Dan Renkin, and sound consultation by David Brandenburg. Robert Moss heads the build crew.

The run at LongHouse is the first for the play, which will be further developed for an indoor performance at LTV Studios in the fall.

Performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $35, $20 for students. Because chairs are limited, and no additional chairs will be allowed, lawn blankets have been recommended. The play is suitable for ages 10 and up.
