Alejandro Aboli’s photograph "California Dreamin'" will be on view at Roman Fine Art in Sag Harbor starting tomorrow.

Aboli in Sag
“American Dream,” a show of photographs by Alejandro Aboli, will open tomorrow at Roman Fine Art in Sag Harbor and remain on view through May 23. A reception will be held Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m.

The exhibition will feature work from his photographic series “The Red Line,” which captures landscapes, cityscapes, and architecture, often vernacular, from the places where Mr. Aboli has lived and traveled, among them Coney Island, Los Angeles, Madrid, and New York.

Mr. Aboli uses a palette of bright blue and soft pink to create images that have a pristine, almost unreal quality. In some, such as “L.A. with 50 ft. Woman,” he intersperses a larger-than-life figure into an otherwise ordinary beach scene, to blur the line “between realism and the imagination,” according to his website.

Celebrating Spring
“Taking Root,” a show of paintings by five gallery artists, is on view at the Grenning Gallery in Sag Harbor through May 2, with a reception set for Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. The exhibition is a celebration of spring, as exemplified by the paintings of Amy Florence, who lives in Italy’s Chianti Valley and is drawn to flowers, a “still life in nature” that she brings into her studio.

Flowers also appeal to Maryann Lucas, whose “Welcome Home,” produced in her new Sag Harbor studio, features snapdragons and lilies. Tim McGuire works en plein air, and even built an easel especially for his painting “The Creek.” Rachel Personnet painted the poppies outside her family house while conversing with her parents during the pandemic through an open window. Tina Orsolic Dalessio’s “Gladioli” features flowers bought by her husband at their local market in Portugal.

The Sweet Smell of Nostalgia at Sagaponack General

Stepping into the new Sagaponack General Store, which reopened yesterday after being closed since 2020, is a sweet experience, and not just because there’s a soft-serve ice cream station on the left and what promises to be the biggest penny candy selection on the South Fork on your right, but because it’s like seeing an old friend who, after some struggle, made it big. Really, really big.
