East Hampton Town police are investigating whether there is a connection between break-ins at Amagansett Seafood and Bostwick's Chowder House in East Hampton between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Brittany Carriero, who has held leadership roles in the Sag Harbor School District since 2013, is expected to be named the new principal of Pierson Middle and High School on Thursday at a meeting of the Sag Harbor School Board, the district announced Tuesday. Laura Westhoff will be appointed dean of the middle school until a new middle school assistant principal is hired.

Sylvester Manor on Shelter Island has more than 70 Red Star hens who are “going into retirement” -- meaning they are starting to age past their egg-laying prime -- and need good homes.

The organization said Tuesday it is selling the hens, who are between two and three years old, for $5 each. People who are interested should take their own crates to pick them up in.

One sample collected in East Hampton Town sometime between Aug. 25 and Aug. 27 tested positive, according to an announcement Friday from the Suffolk County Department of Health Services.

New York State school districts must now report confirmed cases of Covid-19 to a state Department of Health website that will be publicly accessible by the start of the school year.

Hundreds of people gathered in Southampton Village on Saturday morning for a Back the Blue rally to support police officers, law enforcement, and the armed services. 

Five candidates are vying for two open East Hampton Village Board seats in the Sept. 15 election: Richard Lawler, the appointed mayor, and Ray Harden an appointed trustee, on the Elms Party line; David Driscoll on the Fish Hooks line, and Chris Minardi of the villages zoning board of appeals and Sandra Melendez on the NewTown line.

Haunted houses, corn mazes, and apples, oh my!

New state guidelines announced earlier this week mean that beloved fall activities including corn mazes, apple and pumpkin picking, and haunted houses will be able to open for New Yorkers to enjoy as early as Saturday. 

"The new guidance announced today will ensure that these businesses can open to the public, allowing families to enjoy their favorite fall activities while providing a boost for our farming communities and local economies," Gov. Cuomo said in a release on Tuesday.

DanceHampton in East Hampton Village, Creative Edge Dance Studio in Montauk, and the Hampton Ballet Theatre School in Bridgehampton are enrolling dancers for fall programs.
