The Jewish High Holy Days begin on Wednesday at sundown, and there will be Rosh Hashana observances in Sag Harbor and East Hampton.
At East Hampton, Chabad of the Hamptons will start its services on Wednesday after candle lighting at 6:10 p.m. A Rosh Hashana community dinner follows at 7:15. Next Thursday, morning services begin at 9, with a shofar sounding at 11 and services resuming at 4:45 p.m., followed by tashlich and shofar-blowing at Town Pond at 5. On Friday, Oct. 4, the second day of Rosh Hashana, services are at 9 a.m., with shofar blowing at 11, and 6:15 p.m. Services on Oct. 5 will be at 9:30 a.m. and 6:15 p.m.
There is no charge to attend High Holy Day programs at the Chabad house, for members or nonmembers, but reservations are required and donations are accepted to help cover the costs of the synagogue’s various community events. Yom Kippur observances begin on Oct. 11. Spots can be reserved at bit.ly/3XBnMFl.
The Jewish Center of the Hamptons does charge nonmembers for tickets to attend High Holy Day services at its synagogue in East Hampton, but also offers a virtual option for which people can pay whatever they are able. Rosh Hashana services start on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. and continue next Thursday at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., with tashlich at Main Beach at 4:30. On Friday, Oct. 4, services will be at 10 a.m., with tashlich at Main Beach at 4:30 in case of rain the day before. Tickets for in-person and virtual services can be reserved at bit.ly/4euTQBF.
For its services, Temple Adas Israel in Sag Harbor reserves spots in its main sanctuary for its members first, and offers guests of members seats in its neighboring community hall, where services are broadcast through closed-circuit TV. Seating is in the temple’s lower level for nonmembers who are not guests of members. Services are also live-streamed at templeadasisrael.org and on the temple’s YouTube channel.
Wednesday evening service is at 7. Rosh Hashana services continue next Thursday at 10 a.m., with a 3 p.m. family service; on Friday, Oct. 4, at 10 a.m., with tashlich and the shofar blowing at Havens Beach at 4:15 (Sunday in case of rain) and 6 p.m., and on Oct. 5 at 10 a.m. Nonmembers should contact the temple directly to reserve space in the lower level.
Gesher | the Bridge Shul will hold its High Holy Day services at Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor and via Zoom. Nonmembers are asked to make a donation whether attending in person or virtually, but those unable to do so will be accommodated. Wednesday evening services will start at 6. Next Thursday, there will be a 9:30 a.m. service followed by a community lunch, and tashlich at Long Wharf at 2. A morning service at 9:30 on Friday, Oct. 4, will also be followed by lunch.
Reservations are required for all services and the lunches and can be made online at bridgeshul.org. Yom Kippur services will also be held at Bay Street.
