The Sag Harbor School District will host its first community forum on the Pierson Capital Improvement Project on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the high school gym. The meeting will include a general overview of the $40 million capital improvement bond, followed by a facility tour of school areas in need of repair.
The evening will conclude with an information session with tables organized according to items addressed in the bond, including a marine science lab, robotics lab, music room, and the gymnasium. Each table will be hosted by a faculty member with relevant experience, allowing attendees to ask specific questions.
The project includes upgrades to the high school gym, fitness and wellness center, technology and woodshop room, robotics lab, and Red Cross shelter. It also adds a new marine science lab, a third music room, and a recording and streaming studio.
The current bond offering is $40 million over 30 years. For a home assessed at $1 million, the cost would average $151.32 per year, which works out to $12.61 per month. The bond will go before school district taxpayers on Jan. 22.
