A trivia night at the Point Bar and Grill in Montauk on Wednesday from 6 to 9 will raise money for an East Hampton High School service-learning trip in February to Malawi, where students will work with a rural community to construct a school.
The trip marks the 10th time that students here have partnered with the global nonprofit buildOn to bring educational opportunities to underserved areas in some of the poorest countries of the world — and the second time they have done so in Malawi, a country in East Africa bordered by Mozambique, Tanzania, and Zambia.
Entry to the trivia night costs $25 per person. Prizes include gift certificates to shops and restaurants from Sag Harbor to Montauk.
Donations, which are tax-deductible, can also be made online at bit.ly/3KuAyTt. They fund not only the students’ travel expenses, but also the materials needed to build the school, which will enroll an equal number of boys and girls when completed.
