Fifteen East Hampton-Bridgehampton-Pierson wrestlers participated in the Sal DiFazio Holiday Tournament at Half Hollow Hills East High School on Dec. 28. Seven of them placed. Two of them placed first.
In the least shocking win of the tournament, the light but mighty Bronco Campsey placed first in the 126-pound category. He pinned Kingston Weber of Half Hollow Hills East in his first-round match. In the quarterfinals, he defeated Bellmore J.F.K.’s Jesse Sandler in a 15-0 technical fall. Campsey pinned Gavin Nason of Half Hollow Hills West to win the semifinals. Campsey capped off the day by pinning Daniel Prus of James Madison-Public Schools Athletic League.
Frank Barrientos took sixth place in the 150-pound weight class. Barrientos received a bye in the first round. He was pinned by Derek Mishkin of Half Hollow Hills East in the quarterfinals. Barrientos then pinned Mason Witte of Bellmore J.F.K. in consolation round two. He went on to pin Adam Khwaja of Half Hollow Hills East in consolation round three. Barrientos then lost in the
In the 165-pound division, Matias Gonzalez came in fifth. He pinned Aroosh Arif of Half Hollow Hills in his first-round match. He then pinned Bennett Shasta of Bellmore J.F.K. in the quarterfinals. Gonzalez went on to lose his semifinal and consolation-semifinal matches, but pinned Tejveer Singh of Miller Place to finish in fifth.
Brian Torres placed sixth in the 175-pound weight class. Torres received a bye in round one, lost in the quarterfinals, and received another bye in consolation round two. He won his consolation round-three match against Connor Timoney of Bellmore J.F.K. in an 8-5 decision. Torres went on to lose his last two matches.
In the 190-pound weight class, Chris Amay took sixth. He pinned Charles Siegler of Bellmore J.F.K. to win his first match. Amay lost in the quarterfinals, but went on to win both of his consolation rounds. He pinned teammate Jason Bueno in consolation round two and then defeated Ralph Burke of Harborfields in a 5-2 decision in the consolation third-round
Juan Espinoza dominated the 215-pound division. He received a bye in the first round before pinning Darling Moreno of Half Hollow Hills East in the quarterfinals. Espinoza pinned Miguel Cancino Puma of James Madison-P.S.A.L. in the semifinals and then pinned one of his own teammates, Orson O’Brien, in his final match. Espinoza took first place, while O’Brien placed second.
O’Brien also received a bye in the first round of the 215-pound competition. He pinned Trent Rounsavall of Harborfields in the quarterfinals and Junior Rodriguez of Midwood-P.S.A.L. in the semifinals before losing to Espinoza.
