Amagansett

A man riding a Jet Ski in Napeague Bay on Saturday was warned by a Marine Patrol officer that while Jet Skis are permitted outside harbors, they must be operated at “idle” speed within 100 feet of shorelines. Someone had called police to report a speeding Jet Ski in the area.

Police responded on Sunday at 3 a.m. to reports of a fight in front of Amagansett Square. Several people questioned denied it, before hopping into an Uber and leaving the scene.

Three Queens residents were ticketed for open-container violations last Thursday night after officers spotted them drinking Michelob Ultra in the town parking lot behind Main Street.

East Hampton

It was just “a prank,” a woman told police on Saturday after her neighbor complained that she’d dug up a boxwood plant from her yard and replanted it in her own yard. She promised to have her landscaper replant the shrub this week back at the neighbor’s.

Police saw a group of three men shellfishing Friday in Three Mile Harbor off Maidstone Park and found they had only one valid permit among them, which would cover one of the other men as a guest but not both. The permit holder was ticketed, and also cited for littering after police said one of his guests intentionally dropped his bucket into the water.

Scammers preying on people on the NextDoor website tried their luck on an East Hampton woman on June 8. The woman, who was selling boots on the website, told police she’d shared her email address with a potential buyer and then been contacted by someone claiming to be associated with Zelle. She found that suspicious and reported it.

Montauk

Two men, both probably drunk, were walking down South Edgemere Street Saturday night toward the train station when one reported that the other had slapped him. An officer gave the victim a ride to the train station while another questioned the alleged assailant, who said he’d slapped his friend for “talking too much.”

A local man was charged with misdemeanor D.W.I. at 3 a.m. on Friday after he backed into a car parked at Dive Bar Pizza on West Lake Drive.

On Sunday night police ticketed an employee of the Surf Lodge after the hotel was found to be in violation of noise ordinances. The Canadian band Alvvays was on the schedule that night.

A concerned neighbor called police from his South Elroy Drive house last week to report that one of his neighbors had menaced another with a meat tenderizer. The alleged victim, who declined to press charges, said his dogs had urinated on his neighbor’s lawn before the incident.

A new stop sign installed by the Highway Department on the corner of Dewey Place and Second House Road went missing on Friday. Officials questioned the resident of the nearest house, who said he had not seen it happen.

Dogs are not allowed at Duryea’s restaurant, the manager told a Pennsylvania couple on June 10. The pair called police to complain, saying they’d been barred from taking their service dog into the establishment. The manager then told them they were welcome to get takeout and eat at a picnic area across the street.

A 3 a.m. fight on Sunday on the sidewalk in front of Pizza Village, reportedly over rugby, was broken up by police, who found the two men wrestling on the pavement. Both sustained scrapes to their knees and elbows but there were no charges.

The manager of Alimentari Beach on Main Street complained last Thursday about an older customer who often comes in drunk and disruptive, yelling profanities and harassing the staff verbally. That afternoon, the manager said, had been the last straw: The man was refused service and asked to leave. When he arrived back at the restaurant police were there, and served him with a notice of trespass, warning him he would be arrested if he returned.

A man seen urinating in public on South Edgemere Street Saturday evening was ticketed and sent on his way.

A Marine Patrol officer directed a Connecticut man to extinguish his beach fire and clean up the debris on June 8. Reports indicate the man was not using the required metal container.

Springs

Debris from a grill, along with napkins and cleaning materials tossed into a rubber trash can, caught fire on June 9. Springs firefighters, who extinguished the blaze on Fairway Drive, reported only minimal damage to the side of a house.

A man who believes oysters have been stolen from the waters near the Sunset Cove Marina called police on the afternoon of June 9 to report a suspicious pickup truck in the area, which he said may have been involved in the theft.
