Garbage and debris caught fire on Oakview Highway just after midnight on July 20. The homeowner, who was trying to extinguish the flames with a garden hose, got some help from firefighters.
A Southampton man who entered the indoor tennis center at the Ross School on the morning of July 15 was charged with trespassing.
Smoke from a Land Rover’s coolant tank caused a driver on Route 114 to call police. The Fire Department determined there was no fire.

On the heels of a Freon leak several weeks ago, an employee of Stop & Shop called police on Saturday to report smoke and sparks in the supermarket’s freezer room. Firefighters turned off the freezers; no one was injured.
A car that had been reported as stolen was impounded by police on Saturday. Police said the car, a rental parked on Main Street, had not been returned on the scheduled date of May 18 and had been flagged by a Flock camera. The driver, a 22-year-old Water Mill man, was released by police after they found no probable cause to arrest him.
Individuals wearing camouflage in a field on Sarah’s Way alarmed a resident on Saturday afternoon. Police found a family playing on their own property with airsoft guns.
An ambulance took a “highly intoxicated” woman to the medical center on Saturday evening after she was found on the train platform with bruises to her knees.

After allegedly slamming the cabin door of his boat on police officers, a Woodbury man was arrested on July 11. Police, who said they were investigating a reported domestic disturbance, ultimately charged the man with criminal obstruction of breathing, criminal mischief, obstructing governmental administration, and resisting arrest, all misdemeanors. It happened at a boat slip on Star Island Road.
A Massapequa man found asleep at 3 a.m. Saturday in the crosswalk in front of 7-Eleven was highly intoxicated, police reported. They escorted him back to the house where he was staying.
Three men and a woman were ticketed on July 21 for trespassing at Puff and Putt after operating hours.
Marine Patrol found a Florida man driving his BMW on the Navy Road beach on July 20 and cited him for the violation.
Sag Harbor
A woman who’d parked her car on Bay Street last week found it missing, possibly stolen, when she returned. A tracker system on the car helped police find it on 6 Pole Highway, where a man acknowledged driving it home and said it was nearly identical to his rental car. It was returned to its owner.
A yellow 1973 Volkswagen seems to have vanished after its owners parked it on Main Street Saturday and had a drink at Kidd Squid. When they returned, the car was gone. Police said Flock cameras did not detect it leaving the village, only entering it on the day of the incident. The investigation continues.
On Friday night, for drinking a Miller Lite on the street and then tossing the empty can into a bush, police charged an 18-year-old Madison, Conn., man with drinking in public and littering. Police spotted the teenager in Carruthers Alley, next to the American Hotel, and took him back to headquarters, where he was issued the citations. He will answer to the charges in court on Friday, Aug. 7.
A drone flying above Madison Street concerned a resident there, who called police on July 21. The drone was probably taking pictures of a nearby house for sale, the caller said, but had been flying in the area for several weeks.
Police called wildlife rescue on Saturday to help remove a bird that was stuck inside the Wharf Street windmill.
After an Uber dropped her at her house on the night of July 20, a Horizon Drive woman called police to say the driver had remained outside her house for over 30 minutes before leaving.
A sinkhole in the Madison Street sidewalk was reported to the Highway Department on July 21.
After making a U-turn on Bay Street on Saturday, a car collided with a man riding a motorcycle. The driver of the car told police the motorcycle had hit his car, while the cyclist claimed that the car had crashed into his bike and pinned his leg on it. A witness told police the car hit the motorcycle.
Wainscott
An East Hampton man inadvertently started a small fire in the bed of his truck on Sunday after loading a grill containing hot coals onto the truck. Police said the man, who was driving on Montauk Highway when the fire started, had put the flames out himself with a fire extinguisher. He was uninjured.
