In the week’s only drug-related arrest, a Massachusetts man is facing a felony charge for possession of a hallucinogen.
At about 1 a.m. on July 21, town police stopped Angelo Sia, 39, of Medway, Mass., on Montauk Highway near Oak Lane in Amagansett for a traffic infraction. The driver, who could not produce a valid driver’s license, had three clear bags in the car containing “dried white fungus material,” according to the report. The “fungus” later proved to be psilocybin, a drug found in some species of mushrooms, that can cause hallucinations.
Mr. Sia was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a felony, and second-degree aggravated unlicensed driving, a misdemeanor. Justice David Filer released him later that morning on his own recognizance, with a future date in town court.
