After ripping a gutter and downspout off the side of Amagansett Hardware early Sunday morning, an East Hampton man was charged with criminal mischief with intent to damage property, a misdemeanor.

Last Thursday, within a 30-minute time frame, police responded to four motor vehicle accidents.

Someone hit and damaged a car parked by the side of West Drive on June 1 and left the scene.

Montauk

A New York State trooper was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, early on Saturday morning after he drove through the Main Street green. Police said the Smithtown man blew through the wooden barricade and through the green before striking a light pole. The driver then “failed to navigate the turn on Carl Fisher Plaza,” according to the report, after entering from Edgemere Street. He appeared in court later that morning and was released on his own recognizance.

A $4,000 bill for bottle service was disputed early Monday morning at Bounce Beach Montauk by a couple who told police they’d already spent $5,000 on food and drinks that evening, and paid the bill, before two more bottles they did not order were brought to the table. A club employee told police the couple had ordered, and consumed, the two additional bottles. Police said the matter was of a civil, not criminal, nature.

At 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, a Bridgehampton man who was later charged with misdemeanor drunken driving hit a parked car on Montauk Highway near South Edison Street, flipping his car onto its roof and damaging the unattended vehicle. Police found him standing next to his car, in which they found two open cans of White Claw alcoholic seltzer. He was released on his own recognizance later that morning.

The Polar Bear, a fishing boat out of Montauk, ran aground near the Rocky Point area of Fort Pond Bay Sunday morning. Police, Marine Patrol, and the Coast Guard all responded, and the boat was able to make it back safely.

A Rego Park family was having a cookout inside the gazebo at Carl Fisher Plaza the night of June 3, causing smoke to billow from the structure. Police told the group to move the grill away from the gazebo.

After spotting some wooden debris burning in the sand, police ticketed a man who’d made himself a fire on Navy Beach. Among other things, he did not have a required bucket of water on hand, they reported.

Sag Harbor

Employees of Ava’s & Around Again on Wharf Street called police on June 2 to report a $15,000 fur coat missing from the store, apparently stolen. The mink coat was last seen on May 31.

In the rain Sunday night on Hampton Street, officers spotted a juvenile on an e-bike, riding without a helmet and speeding. When they tried to pull him over, they reported, the rider “cut the lights” and fled.

A man asking for food and money from passers-by on Wharf Street Saturday afternoon was told to leave there and not return.

A caller reported that someone was “looking in mailboxes” on Ackerly Street last Thursday. It turned out to be a volunteer with a local political party, who told police he was checking addresses for an upcoming election. They confirmed it, but warned him that entering mailboxes is a crime.

Police removed a bat — the kind that flies, not the kind that hits baseballs — from a Princeton Road house on June 1, using a crab net and a baking sheet.

A man drinking beer and “offering music albums” to people passing by the post office on Friday was advised by police that peddling without a permit is illegal.

Three men caught drinking beer outside Murf’s Tavern on Friday night told police the high price of alcohol was the reason they were out on the street. Police told them about the law against drinking in public and gave them a verbal warning, and they left.

A $700 surfboard was stolen Saturday afternoon from a boat docked at Redwood Marina.
