A trailer reported missing in Southampton in July popped up in East Hampton on Aug. 31, resulting in the arrest of the man towing it.
East Hampton Village police charged Edgar Quiroz-Saltos of Southampton with criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree, a felony. He was spotted with the Bri-Mar brand trailer on Osborne Lane just before noon that day.
Its rightful owner, Joaquin T. Baca, told police the trailer is worth around $6,400.
Mr. Quiroz-Saltos, 40, was held overnight and arraigned the following morning by East Hampton Town Justice David Filer, who released him on his own recognizance to await arraignment in Justice Court at a future date. If convicted, Mr. Quiroz-Saltos could face up to seven years in prison.
A Sag Harbor man also arrested in East Hampton Village and facing felony charges is Jorge Saavedra Chasi, 21, who was seen on Pantigo Road at 3:30 a.m. Saturday driving with only one headlight.
After pulling him over, police allegedly found an aluminum case in his car with “two clear bags” containing “more than 500 milligrams of cocaine.”
He was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony, as well as aggravated driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor.
Police reported he’d been arrested recently and faces charges of criminal mischief and harassment for an incident on Middle Highway in East Hampton, where he damaged a window screen in a house while attempting to enter it. Those charges are still pending.
Justice Filer released him on his own recognizance to await a future court date.
