A confused pizza delivery driver prompted a call to police on Aug. 25. A Marine Boulevard resident told police a man walked up to his front door and took a picture. Police said the delivery driver was unsure which house ordered the pizza but eventually found the right address.
Police were able to de-escalate a potential road rage incident last Thursday afternoon after a Springs man, frustrated with a Brooklyn driver traveling at 35 miles per hour on Montauk Highway where the speed limit is 55, honked his horn. The Brooklyn driver stuck his middle finger up at the man. The men eventually apologized to each other with assistance of police and went on their ways.
A Manhattan man whose truck got stuck on the beach at Lazy Point contacted several tow companies for assistance on Thursday evening, so by the time Marshall and Sons showed up, the truck was already off the beach. Owners of the company said the man owed them for making the service call but he would not pay. In the end, police said the pair agreed it was a misunderstanding and parted ways.
Several people called police this week about a man in a brown uniform on an electric scooter selling pest control door to door. On Friday, police searched for the man on Devonshire Lane but could not find him.
Uber drivers from Quincy, Mass., and Flushing, Queens, were awakened by police on Sunday morning at 4:15. The pair were sleeping in the parking lot at Zakura restaurant. Police told them to leave the area.
The parking attendant booth at Atlantic Avenue Beach was struck by a car and damaged on Aug. 16.
East Hampton
Police have yet to meet with the woman they say crashed her car into a tree in July and fled the scene, leaving her car to be towed. Police said they found her Ford Fiesta in a wooded area off Stephen Hand’s Path on July 30. They deployed a drone to find the driver or any other victims but were unable to locate anyone. The owner of the car, who is from Mastic Beach, has not been located but a phone that pinged in the area during the time of the crash was traced to a Southampton woman. That woman has been located but so far has refused to cooperate with police.
An East Hampton man was charged with second-degree harassment, a violation, on Saturday after he allegedly pushed a Manhattan woman down and spit in her face at his house.
Police responded to Hickory Court in Northwest after two neighbors had a verbal altercation on Saturday, with one claiming the other was driving too fast down the street. Police told them to stay away from each other.
East Hampton Village
After an employee of Smokey Buns dropped a milkshake on Aug. 24, a customer became irate and called the employee “multiple slurs,” according to police. The woman was told to leave the restaurant and not return.
Several people in the village reported a man wearing a yellow shirt emblazoned with the word “Hezbollah” last week. On Saturday, customers at the Golden Pear on Newtown Lane told police the man wearing the shirt was drinking coffee outside the shop. Police could not locate the man but noted that he was no longer welcome at the cafe.
Again this week, police issued two summonses to employees of Legends Surf Company for running surfing lessons at Georgica Beach without a permit -- one on Monday and another on Thursday.
Police were on the lookout for a man on an electric scooter who was reportedly taking pictures and trying to open gates along Cove Hollow Farm Road on Friday afternoon.
Two men, one from Greenwich, Conn., and another from Manhattan, were issued summonses for driving on Georgica Beach on Saturday evening without beach-driving stickers.
The driver of a car that allegedly struck a bicyclist on Aug. 24 on Newtown Lane has not been identified, police said this week. However, police also said it was unclear if the bicyclist had been hit at all. In a report, police noted that camera footage of the event shows the cyclist “fall over on his own and into the path” of the car.
The manager of CVS on Pantigo Road told police on Aug. 25 that a “suspicious person” dressed in black was walking the aisles of the store. When police spotted the man on Main Street, he told them he was “just walking around” on his day off before heading home to Riverhead.
After doing some shopping at Stop and Shop on Thursday afternoon, a Southampton man said his electric bike had been stolen from outside the store.
Montauk
A 29-foot boat capsized in Lake Montauk Sunday morning, leaving four boaters in the water. Police said the owner was attempting to return to the West Lake Drive launching ramp because the boat had been taking on water. It overturned within several yards of the ramp. Police helped two of the men from the water while the remaining two were able to swim to shore safely. No one was injured and the boat was towed out of the water. The Bay Shore man at the helm was ticketed for operating a vessel without a boating safety certificate.
An unwanted guest at the Montauk Yacht Club was removed by police last Thursday night after managers there said she had not paid her bill the night before, was sleeping on a couch behind a hotel room, and would not leave. The Northport woman told police her mother had canceled her cellular service so she was unable to get home.
Police told the woman she would be arrested if she returned to the yacht club in the next two years and they took her to the train station, where it was later reported that she was bothering M.T.A. employees, who then called police to say she was “highly intoxicated” and refused to leave the station. Emergency medical services were called after the woman told police she was “feeling faint.”
At 3:30 on Saturday morning, police responded to a call about another allegedly intoxicated and unruly woman at Montauk Project on Fort Pond Road. Police said the Manhattan woman was refusing to leave, and starting to get aggressive with two men working the door there. The woman told police she had lost her handbag in the building but neither police nor any employees could find it. Police told her to leave the premises.
On Saturday, a man accused of living in his vehicle at Ditch Plain told police he leaves every night and does not sleep there. When they asked him about reports that he had been talking to women and calling them pretty, he said he is “just friendly when he is surfing.”
Sag Harbor
Sag Harbor police arrested a Patchogue man on Sunday night for aggravated driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, after they said the man stopped on Main Street to talk to a pedestrian, almost struck other cars on the road, and nearly hit pedestrians crossing the street. When he was pulled over, police said the man had forgotten to put the car in park and it started rolling back toward the parked police car. He told police he had been at the Hampton Classic horse show. He was released on an appearance ticket and is due in court on Friday, Sept. 11.
The attendant at a private Long Island Avenue parking lot called police twice on Aug. 26 reporting two disputes with people he said had parked in the lot illegally. The attendant had booted both cars and both car owners disputed the removal fee. One driver worked out a deal with the attendant and the other had the boot released free of charge but was told not to return to the lot.
A Joel’s Lane resident told police on Aug. 24 that he has been receiving threatening texts and phone calls from a woman he knows and that he wanted to press charges.
An employee of the Corner was identified through camera footage on Friday as the person erasing a chalkboard-style sign on Main Street near the restaurant. The man told police that “what he did was foolish” but said he is no longer employed by the now-closed restaurant and is leaving the village.
A 21-foot boat wedged under a dock on West Water Street on Sunday morning was taking on water and sinking, a dock master told the harbormaster. The harbormaster was able to remove the water from the boat.
Reports of heavy smoke on Hempstead Street at 6 a.m. on Aug. 25 turned out to be a fire pit that a resident had left smoldering the night before.
A business owner on Terry Drive threatened to press larceny charges against a former employee who he said had kept a work-issued laptop when he quit his position. The ex-employee finally returned the laptop last Thursday.
On Sunday, a boat captain reported a case of water rage that he said happened on Aug. 18. He told police his boat had been overtaken in the channel by a speeding 48-foot yacht. The captain of the yacht told police he passed the boat because he thought it was slowing down to pick up a mooring.
A boat that did not have authorization to dock at Long Wharf on Sunday was towed to the outer mooring field that morning. The boat’s owner told the harbormaster that he could not find his assigned mooring the night before and was worried he might run aground so he had docked at the wharf.
Springs
A loud bang and a broken window led to police being called on Saturday to Gardiner’s Lane. Kids ride bikes in the area, a resident told police, and he said they had not seen anyone nearby when the window was broken the day before.
Wainscott
A Sayre’s Path resident told police on Aug. 20 that someone drove a Toyota Land Cruiser onto her property and over her basketball court to yell at her landscapers for working late. It was 6:15 p.m., police said, and the resident suspected that one of her neighbors was behind the wheel.
