Amagansett

A motorist swerved across the double yellow lines on the Napeague stretch Saturday night and clipped the driver’s-side mirror of a car idling by the side of the road, whose driver told police she’d pulled over to use her phone when it happened. Police said there was no other damage to the car.

East Hampton

A suspicious vehicle was reported on Middle Highway last Thursday morning, which turned out to belong to a flagger for a construction company in the area.

East Hampton Village

During the snowstorm, police made the decision to move a GMC pickup truck parked on North Main Street with its doors unlocked and the keys in the ignition. The owner could not be reached, and the truck was blocking snow removal, so officers moved it to a parking lot and brought the items inside it to headquarters for safekeeping.

The Red Horse Market called police on Feb. 20 after a man left without paying for his lunch. After reviewing the store’s camera footage, police identified the man, contacted him, warned him not to return to the market, and cited him for trespassing. He then paid the $14 he owed.

A downed tree on Feb. 23 damaged three vehicles parked in the Fire Department’s parking lot.

Montauk

An electrical pole caught fire on the morning of Feb. 25, causing a power outage. Firefighters extinguished the blaze before 10:30 a.m.

A verbal argument between two neighbors at the Montauk Shores condos brought police out twice, once on Feb. 17 and again the next day. The men were told to stay away from each other in future.

Sag Harbor

In the run-up to the last snowstorm in January, police issued dozens of summonses for illegal parking. This time around, police said on Feb. 22 that only three tickets had been issued.

Multiple reports came in on Feb. 23 about hazardous conditions in the village, including road flooding on Bay Street, downed trees, and low-hanging wires, starting in the early morning hours and continuing into the afternoon.

Landscapers working on a Glover Street driveway on Feb. 17 hit a gas line, causing a gas leak in the neighborhood. Village firefighters and National Grid both responded, and the pipe was repaired.

Springs

A local woman hit a pothole on Fireplace Road Saturday that was so large, she told police, that it damaged a tire on her Chevrolet beyond repair. Police notified the Highway Department, which “advised they will not be responding out to repair potholes” at that time. Officers placed traffic cones around the pothole.

Wainscott

On Saturday, a driver on Montauk Highway reported that debris had fallen from a vehicle ahead of him and become lodged under his Mustang, ripping the muffler off.

Later that day police removed and disposed of two fishing nets from the beach at the end of Beach Lane.

Alarming Incidents in Sag Harbor

Sag Harbor Village police say one man with mental health issues has been responsible for a string of disturbing incidents in the village recently.
