East Hampton

It remains unclear where a series of scratches on an East Hampton man’s car came from. He called police on March 5, saying he’d stopped to grab lunch at a deli on Pantigo Road and the scratches may have appeared then.

A Wells Fargo card he didn’t apply for led an East Hampton man to call police on March 6. After the card arrived he called the bank and was told that two additional accounts had been opened in his name. All of them have since been closed.

East Hampton Village

The State Department of Transportation called village police on March 3 after receiving reports of two large potholes, next to each other on Route 114, just outside the Toilsome Lane traffic circle. Police placed traffic cones in the area.

Employees of Riverhead Building Supply called police on March 4 to report that a man known to them for shoplifting was at it again. The store declined to press charges but said the Cutchogue resident had stolen from there in the past and asked police to tell him he was no longer welcome.

An East Hampton caretaker told police on March 3 that the neighbor of one of her clients had called her names and told her to “Go back to your country” and “Go back to the jungle.” Police spoke with the neighbor, who said the woman “had an attitude” toward him and denied making any vulgar comments. Police told them to stay away from each other.

Two Open House signs on Jericho Road got the attention of law enforcement on Sunday. Police said the real estate agent who put them there claimed to be unaware that the village permits only one sign at a time to be displayed. The agent was ticketed.

Montauk

A local man reported last week that nearly $10,000 had been charged to his Citibank credit card over several days in February without his authorization.

Sag Harbor

A squabble between two basketball coaches at a Youth Hoops game on March 4 led to police being called. A woman told the officers that an opposing coach had cursed at her son and then at her husband, who was also a coach at the game. The accused coach claimed the woman’s son had punched his own son in the face. Youth Hoops is a program for children in kindergarten through sixth grade.

Using Flock cameras, village police followed a truck they suspected of leaving the scene of an accident on Main Street on Feb. 24. After a woman reported that her car’s bumper had been damaged, police were able to view a Ford pickup truck striking her car and then able to identify the truck’s driver. They called him, and he claimed he’d waited for the car’s owner after the accident but left “after waiting a half-hour.”

He was ticketed for leaving the scene of an accident.

Not realizing it was a cat that knocked over a Ring camera at a Burke Street house on Friday, its owner called police to report a possible suspicious incident. Nothing was amiss.

On March 3, police on patrol from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. along Hampton Street and Main Street pulled over 17 drivers for traffic violations and ticketed nine of them.

Wainscott

An East Hampton man told police that after pumping gas at the Speedway station on March 4, his credit card had been charged an additional $50.18 in a separate transaction. Police spoke to the manager of the store, who said she could not retrieve records related to the incident.
