Failed to Signal and Keep in Lane

Thu, 01/08/2026 - 12:39

A local man is facing two drunken-driving felony charges after a traffic stop in East Hampton on Friday night.

Just after 10 p.m., according to the report, a patrol officer was watching as a gray 2013 Honda, northbound on Springs-Fireplace Road near the North Main Street intersection, failed to signal a turn or to maintain its lane, and initiated a traffic stop.

The driver, Marlo Sinchi of East Hampton, 31, reportedly demonstrated multiple signs of intoxication, and performed poorly on a series of field sobriety tests. He consented to a breath test, which returned a blood-alcohol reading at or above the legal limit, according to the complaint, and a search of his record allegedly revealed two previous D.W.I. convictions, from 2016 and 2018.

Mr. Sinchi was charged with driving while intoxicated and operating a motor vehicle with a blood-alcohol level of .08 of 1 percent or higher, both of which were raised to the felony level because of the two convictions within the last 10 years. He was also charged with driving a vehicle not equipped with a court-ordered interlock device, a misdemeanor.

Held for the rest of the night at police headquarters, he was arraigned in Town Justice Court the next morning. Justice David Filer ordered a pretrial supervised release program and set his next court appearance for Jan. 28.
