Five men fled on foot last Thursday from an Uber that had picked them up from the Stephen Talkhouse at 2 a.m. The driver told police he was afraid to take them to their destination after they became “highly intoxicated and belligerent.” Police could not find the men and the driver eventually stopped cooperating with their attempts.
On Aug. 17, a man was reported to have knocked on the door of an Atlantic Avenue house, only to run away “screaming” when someone answered. Police did not find him.
East Hampton
An East Hampton man was charged with a misdemeanor on Friday after police found him driving on Route 114 without an interlock device, often required following a conviction for drunken driving.
An employee of Eco Shield, a pest control company, was reported to police multiple times last week for knocking on doors and soliciting business around Stephen Hand’s Path. Police told the man not to continue without town approval.
East Hampton Village
Two Manhattan drivers had a falling-out on Woods Lane Saturday after one of them took it upon himself Saturday to inform the other that he was “driving poorly,” and followed him, after they argued, to the East Hampton Grill, where he reported the indent to police.
The Legends Surf Company, based in Southampton, was cited twice on Aug. 19 for running surfing lessons on Georgica Beach without a permit.
A Y.M.C.A. RecCenter employee told police on Aug. 18 that a woman who did not have a membership was using the equipment anyway, ignoring a request to stop. After an officer appeared she stopped and left.
The caretaker of a Lily Pond Lane house told police she freed a deer stuck in a fence there on Aug. 19.
A tree limb crashed onto the roof of a Maidstone Avenue house on Aug. 17, damaging it.
Montauk
The manager of 7-Eleven confronted a local man for stealing last Thursday, telling police he had been taking items from the store for several years but became belligerent when confronted that day. Police, who described the man as unhoused, warned him not to return to the store.
After pulling him over on Main Street at 5 a.m. last Thursday, police charged a Flushing man with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, after finding a vial containing what they believed to be cocaine in his possession.
At around 1 a.m. Sunday, a Brooklyn man was reported to be annoying patrons outside the Memory Motel. He told police he was waiting for friends who were at the bar.
While they did have a valid permit to film, a Florida-based film crew was cited last Thursday for blocking beach access to Kirk Park Beach.
Firefighters extinguished a smoldering dumpster fire at the Wavecrest Resort last Thursday morning.
Northwest
Three kayakers were rescued uninjured Sunday night by Sag Harbor harbormasters after their watercraft overturned 1,000 feet off Mile Hill Road. According to the police report, none of them was able to swim but only one was wearing a life jacket.
A car sideswiped an Amazon delivery truck on Montauk Avenue last Thursday, damaging a side mirror. The car’s owner said she would pay for the damage.
Sag Harbor
A fight last Thursday night at the Hampton Street Gulf station resulted in injuries. According to reports, the two victims told police that “four Hispanic men” had attacked them before fleeing in a white Ram pickup truck. Although E.M.S. assisted at the scene, both men refused to be taken to the hospital and later declined to press charges, should their assailants be found.
Two traffic control officers reported last Thursday that a Washington Street driver had become irate after they told her to move along after she let her family out of the car. When she ignored them and attempted to park, they said, she tapped the bumper of the car parked behind her. There was no damage to either car but police issued her a ticket for impeding traffic.
Late Saturday night, police found a man on Bay Street described as “highly intoxicated” who said he was “attempting to adjust the driver’s seat” of a parked BMW that police said did not belong to him. While he does own a BMW, they said, that one was not his. An Uber was called to take him home.
On Saturday, a woman told police she could not find her car after parking it “near a coffee shop and the water.” Police located the car on Main Street, parked in front of Grindstone Coffee and Donuts.
Tents, chairs and a loudspeaker set up by the Drip Shop in the parking lot behind its Main Street shop had to be removed on Saturday after police said the company did not have the required event permits.
On Friday, police shut off the ignition of an Audi left idling on Bay Street for four hours. The car’s doors were unlocked, according to the report, and the windshield wipers were running.
Multiple items were stolen from Flying Point in the Harbor on Sunday. Employees who reviewed the store’s surveillance footage told police they’d spotted a man taking a T-shirt and a Croakies eyeglass holder. Later that day, they believed they saw the same man in the store and called police, who did not find him.
The manager of the Harbor Shop reported an altercation last week with an Uber driver who was using the shop’s private parking lot to wait for fares. The Uber driver told police he would not return there.
The driver of a truck turning into Hampton Street Friday afternoon took responsibility for damage caused to a mailbox there. He told police another car had swerved to avoid hitting him and he struck the mailbox.
The crew of a 44-foot Hinckley yacht accidentally spilled diesel fuel into the water at the Sag Harbor Yacht Yard Sunday. Police said the fuel was contained and soaked up with pads, and the Coast Guard had been notified.
Springs
An upstate woman was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance after police found her Sunday morning with medication prescribed for A.D.H.D. in an unlabeled bottle. She’d been pulled over on Springs-Fireplace Road on suspicion of drunken driving, for which she was also charged.
Wainscott
After buying a $200 baseball mitt from an online seller, a local man told police on Aug. 17 that he’d never received the glove and that his messages have been ignored.
