Teen Is Struck in Crosswalk

Thu, 01/15/2026 - 13:29

An 18-year-old was struck by a Honda sedan while crossing Newtown Lane in East Hampton on Saturday evening, near the intersection of Muchmore Lane.

John A. Vernon of East Hampton, 63, the car’s driver, told police he’d been eastbound on Newtown Lane and had not seen the young woman trying to cross the road because of “inclement weather and poor visibility.”

The pedestrian, whose name was withheld by police, stated she’d been crossing the street in a southward direction and was in the designated crosswalk when the Honda “suddenly” struck her. She complained of head pain and was transported by ambulance to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital for evaluation.

The driver and his passenger, a 63-year-old woman, were not injured.
