Wielding a Samurai Sword

Thu, 06/05/2025 - 11:16

With a black Samurai-style sword in hand, a 33-year-old man from Newburgh, N.Y., allegedly threatened another man on Saturday night near Camp Hero on Coast Artillery Road in Montauk. His target locked himself in his car and called police as the sword-wielder approached.

An officer who arrived about 20 minutes later reported that the suspect resisted her efforts to handcuff him, tensing up his arms and attempting to hide them under his body despite several orders to comply. Charged with menacing in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon with intent to use, and resisting arrest, all Class A misdemeanors, he was held overnight and appeared in Town Justice Court on Sunday morning. Justice David Filer released him on his own recognizance, with instructions to be back in court on Wednesday.

Where misdemeanors are charged, The Star does not report the names of the defendants.
