East Hampton Village

On Friday afternoon, a woman reported her car missing from where she’d left it, with the keys inside, on Park Place. Police found it after not too long, in the Stop & Shop parking lot.

Sag Harbor

A handicapped placard was stolen on the evening of March 31 from the rearview mirror of a car parked near Sag Pizza. A woman who’d had dinner there reported the theft for documentation to get a replacement.

Another in a recent string of hoaxes happened on April 2, when police got a call about “a man with a gun and a female hostage” in the bathroom of the Sag Pizza building, demanding $10,000 to release her. Both bathrooms were empty when officers arrived and employees said they’d seen nothing suspicious. The incident was recorded as another attempted swatting.

Someone has been making withdrawals, totaling $8,450, from her checking account, a Beach Avenue woman told police last Thursday evening, using a forged check and altering the check numbers. She informed her bank, she said, which advised her to report it to police as well.

Montauk

Following up on a March 31 report of a low-hanging wire between two utility poles at the intersection of Lincoln Road and Adams Drive, police wrapped the wire around a pole and called Optimum for a repair. Later on that day another wire was reported down from a different utility pole on the same street. Police removed the wire from the road entirely that time, and called Optimum again.

An injured seal was reported on the rocks by the Lighthouse last Thursday. Police found that the seal had a small cut on its back and alerted the Marine Rescue Center, which said it would monitor the situation.

An odor of gas was reported in a Gloucester Avenue house on Friday afternoon. Montauk firefighters, who were there when police arrived, did not find any gas leaks, and advised the homeowner that the smell could be coming from a sewage tank.

A woman who was at the St. Patrick’s Day parade on March 30 left her purse with her wallet inside it in her car. The purse was in the car when she got back, but when she arrived home she found the wallet missing, with credit and debit cards, her driver’s license, and about $100 in cash. She told police the car had “issues locking.”

Springs

An “amber medallion necklace” was stolen from her car on April 2, a Camberly Road woman told police last Thursday. Police spoke with some landscapers while canvassing the neighborhood, who said they’d seen nothing suspicious.

A woman and a man “wearing a camo shirt and baseball cap” were “taking pictures through his glass door” on Friday afternoon, according to a Louse Point Road resident, who called police to complain. Police checked his property but did not find anyone matching the description.

After being ticketed for an open container Friday night on Springs-Fireplace Road, a man walked behind the squad car and began urinating on a tree in plain sight of the officer. When the officer approached him, the man shoved the ticket at him and began running away. Another officer found him on Shadom Lane, gave him a second citation, and took him to his house on Clinton Street.

A possible oil spill was reported on Babes Lane Sunday night. Officers found evening. Police reported finding “a yellow, milky, slick, substance caused by tree pollen.”

Van Rolls Over on Pantigo

A serious accident occurred on Pantigo Road on the afternoon of April 15 when a pickup truck collided with a Mercedes van that then rolled over onto its side.
