Thu, 07/23/2026 - 08:22

A local woman was injured on Friday morning near the Mobil gas station in Amagansett after her car rolled away and knocked her down.

Jennifer Brew told police she’d just exited the car when she realized it was moving. She tried to reach through the window to stop it but was knocked to the ground.

Ms. Brew was treated on the scene for bruises to her arms and legs, and was taken to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital for further evaluation after complaining of back pain.

In other news, a Sag Harbor man sustained bruises on July 11 after falling from his Vespa scooter in Northwest Woods, and was later charged with drunken driving.

Habtamu Coulter, 23, who was southbound on Old Northwest Road near Stephen Hand’s Path, told East Hampton Town police he’d hit gravel by the side of the road and was not able to control the scooter.

He rode away from the scene, according to the report, but police tracked him down as he was turning onto Route 114 from Stephen Hand’s.  He was bleeding from a facial injury, they said, and was taken by ambulance to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital.

Mr. Coulter was subsequently charged with D.W.I., a misdemeanor. He appeared in court the next morning, where  Justice Steven Tekulsky released him on his own recognizance to await a future court date.
