Amagansett

A Shore Road couple returning to their condo called East Hampton Town police on the morning of Jan. 28 after hearing what they believed to be someone exiting the condo through the back sliding door. Police arrived and reported nothing damaged or stolen. The couple asked to have the incident documented.

East Hampton

Following a verbal argument between her boyfriend and her male roommate early on the morning of Jan. 29, a Montauk Boulevard woman called the police. Officers responded to the scene and separated the men, who agreed to remain in their designated rooms.

Police were summoned to stop a fight between two men on Accabonac Road near Windmill Village on the night of Jan. 20. The fight followed a car collision: Both drivers had pulled off the road and begun arguing, culminating in one of them punching the other, who sustained minor injuries. Neither wanted to pursue charges or see further police action.

East Hampton Village

Both police and fire chiefs, who brought a ladder truck, raced to the rescue of a cat stuck in a tree on Dunemere Lane on the morning of Jan. 29. Just as they were about to grab the cat, it leapt out of the tree and ran into a yard.

Sag Harbor

A Madison Street woman reported her wallet stolen sometime on Jan. 28 while she was at work. She’d left it in her car, she told police, but couldn’t find it when she returned. She did, however, find an unknown  cellphone wedged between the driver’s seat and center console. Believing now that the car had been broken into, she reported the wallet stolen and turned the phone in to police, who canvassed the area, finding nothing.

A woman leaving the Sag Harbor Gym on the evening of Jan. 28 found a loose .22-caliber rifle bullet on the ground. The bullet, which she thought at first to be a pen, is now in the police armory.

Police received a call on Friday night that a man was asleep in the women’s bathroom outside Marine Park. Officers found the unknown man, who they said was drunk, blocking the entrance to the bathroom. He ultimately gave them his ID after earlier refusing and being handcuffed, and a friend from the Corner Bar called him an Uber.

Springs

A driver called police on Jan. 27 to report an intoxicated man who’d run out in front of his truck at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and Springs-Fireplace Road. Police found him, and although paramedics observed no injuries, he was taken by ambulance to Stony Brook-Southampton Hospital for evaluation.

A Kent Place woman reported two men wearing green jackets with “POLICE” written on the back walking around near the rear of her house on the afternoon of Jan. 29. Police investigated and found that the woman was describing two New York State Department of Environmental Conservation officers.

On Three Mile Harbor Road, a man received a scam email on Nov. 28, 2024, urging him to make an appointment for a “biometric scan” and pay a fee of $750. The man found it suspicious and met with an attorney last Thursday, who advised him to report the incident, despite his having suffered no financial loss. The man contacted the credit agency Experian, which found “everything in order.”

A Glade Road woman reported a 77-year-old man with dementia missing on the night of Jan. 30. Police found him walking east on the same road. He did not require medical attention, but police advised the woman who had called to “invest in an Apple air tag or jewelry” that he could wear, so she could keep track of his movements.

A Hawthorne Street resident told police back on Dec. 5 that she’d received a video of herself, accompanied by a threat that the video would be shared unless she sent $500 to its unknown sender. Part of the resolution was redacted, but the woman did not send money.
