Two Intersection Accidents

Thu, 12/04/2025 - 09:40

Two S.U.V.s, a Toyota and a Mercedes, collided at the intersection of Stephen Hand’s Path and Route 114 on the evening of Nov. 24, injuring one of the drivers.

Thelma Fiallos Lagos of East Hampton, 44, who was driving the Toyota, told East Hampton Town police she was southbound on Stephen Hand’s when the Mercedes, approaching from the opposite direction and failing to yield the right of way, attempted a left turn onto Route 114 in front of her, causing a head-on collision. The Toyota did have the right of way, according to the accident report, as it was driving straight ahead, while the Mercedes had a flashing yellow turn light and was obligated to yield to oncoming traffic.

Elizabeth Joan Alexander of Sag Harbor, 46, the Mercedes driver, complained of neck pain at the scene but refused transport to a hospital.

Both vehicles sustained front-end damage and were towed by Hampton Transportation to the Fireplace Auto Collision yard in Springs.

The following evening, a pedestrian was struck by a pickup truck, a 2020 Honda Ridgeline, at the intersection of Jermain Avenue and Division Street in Sag Harbor.

Allan Ray Brown, the driver, 62, told Sag Harbor Village police he’d stopped at the stop sign at that intersection and before proceeding through the crosswalk. The pedestrian stepped in front of his truck, he said, “making contact” with the front passenger-side window.

The pedestrian, Ilona Polak, 52, stated that she’d observed the pickup coming to a stop and stepped into the crosswalk, but that the truck “rolled through the stop line,” ran over her left foot, and hit her left arm. She complained of pain to her foot and arm, according to the report, but refused medical attention several times.

Volunteers Answer the Call of Duty

“No one wants to get out of bed, having just climbed in. And it’s a really cold night, and it’s windy, and everything else — but you know that everyone else will be feeling the same, and so you go anyway. Everyone jumps in their cars and drives there, and then you deal with whatever is going on.”
