Police Seek Suspect in Springs Home Invasion

Mon, 08/19/2024 - 22:15
Suffolk County police released these photos of the suspect on Tuesday, asking for help finding him.

Update, Aug. 20, 4:30 p.m.: East Hampton Town police and Suffolk County Crime Stoppers are searching for a suspect involved in what they called a home invasion on Old Stone Highway late Monday afternoon.

According to a Suffolk County Police Department crime alert on Tuesday, a man entered the house at about 4:40 p.m., "grabbed an elderly resident around the neck, and pushed her to the ground." She was taken to the hospital for treatment of her injuries, which were described as "non-life-threatening." The man "stole cash and fled," Suffolk County police said.

In a release on Monday evening, East Hampton police described the suspect as an "adult male wearing a dark-color hooded sweatshirt." In conjunction with a Southampton Village K-9 unit, town police conducted an extensive search of the area using drone technology, they said.

On Wednesday, Suffolk police said that the suspect "was last seen at a market on Springs-Fireplace Road." The alert did not specify the market, but said that at the time the man "was wearing a medical mask under his chin and a backpack with an Adidas symbol." In camera footage from the market, the suspect appears to be carrying what investigators believe is the sweatshirt he was wearing at the time of the burglary.

Police are asking anyone with information to confidentially assist in the investigation by calling 631-537-7575. In addition, Suffolk County Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest. People can submit anonymous tips to 1-800-222-TIPS or online at P3Tips.com.
