Charged in Stay-Away Order

Thu, 07/25/2024 - 09:09

An East Hampton man was arrested on the morning of July 16 on a felony charge of violating an order of protection. According to town police, Jose Ruben Inga, 54, was involved in a domestic incident with a protected person at a house on Central Avenue, off Old Fireplace Drive in Springs.

Former Town Justice Lisa Rana issued the protective order on Dec. 10, 2023, effective for one year. The name, gender, and other identifying information concerning the alleged victim were redacted in court documents.

Mr. Inga also faces a misdemeanor charge of criminal contempt. Justice Rana had ordered him to refrain from being under the influence of alcohol “in the presence of a protected party,” and Officer Katherine Izzo, while investigating the domestic incident, reported smelling alcohol on his breath, noticed that his balance was unsteady, and noted as well that his eyes were “bloodshot and glassy,” all while in the presence of the protected party.

Mr. Inga is scheduled to appear in Justice Court on Sept. 11.
