Southampton Town detectives are still investigating an attempted burglary that occurred at Citarella in Bridgehampton shortly before midnight on Sunday.

Police reported that the would-be thief smashed a rear window to gain entry to the store, which set off an automatic alarm. After damaging four cash registers, the intruder fled before police arrived. The store manager told detectives that all four had been empty.

In addition to Southampton Town police, Suffolk County police sent in a canine team. The incident is being investigated as second-degree criminal mischief and third-degree burglary: illegal entry with intent to commit a crime.
