Frankenbach Is Sag Harbor’s Top Cop

Thu, 02/29/2024 - 11:20
Scott Frankenbach, center, held his Police Officer of the Year award flanked by Lt. Robert Drake, second from left, and other officers from the Sag Harbor Village Police Department.

Scott Frankenbach, a Sag Harbor Village police officer, was named the village’s Officer of the Year at the Jan. 26 Southampton Town Kiwanis Club’s annual banquet. The village has 13 full-time officers.

Mr. Frankenbach, a Southampton Town native, was hired in 2018 after working part time in the Southampton Town Police Department, and as a code enforcement officer for the town.

“He’s been an asset to us ever since he was hired,” said Lt. Robert Drake. “He always shows initiative and a willingness to learn.” Mr. Frankenbach is one of the department’s field training officers, which means he spends time training new recruits, teaching them how the department works.

“He’s also helped out this year with our investigations,” said Lieutenant Drake. “Some of the larceny cases he’s handled have resulted in arrests.” Mr. Frankenbach led the department in arrests and summonses in 2023.

A smattering of news involving the village's Police and Emergency Services Departments came out of an East Hampton Village Board meeting that was otherwise focused on avoiding the need for residents to call the police for noise complaints in the historic district.

On Pantigo Road near Bostwick’s, a 38-year-old man who appeared to be intoxicated was questioned by police on the afternoon of April 7. He said he wasn’t causing trouble, just canvassing businesses looking for work. Police drove him back to his house. Eight days before, the same man had been seen opening a storage shed and walk-in cooler behind Rowdy Hall in Amagansett, and he was later accused of taking 20 containers of beer and four containers of iced tea. According to the official report, petty larceny charges may be pending.
