East Hampton Teen Is Found Safe

Update, Jan. 22, 5 p.m.: An East Hampton teenager reported missing on Wednesday has been located and is on his way back home to be reunited with his family, East Hampton Town police said Monday afternoon. 

Long Island Rail Road and Metropolitan Transportation Authority police picked up John Gray, 15, at about 4:30 p.m. on Monday at Penn Station. "He is safe and appears fine," East Hampton police said via text. "They are transporting him out to us." 

Update, Jan. 22, 11 a.m.: Multiple state, city, and South Fork police agencies are still searching for John Gray, the East Hampton teenager reported missing on Wednesday. He was seen that day in Pennsylvania Station in Manhattan with two boys and a girl who "appear to be kids his age," an East Hampton Town Police Department spokesman said Monday morning.

John, who is 15 and has autism, is thought to have taken a Long Island Rail Road train from East Hampton to New York City. "Every single tool that we have at our disposal, we've been using," said Detective Sgt. Ryan Hogan.

According to the original announcement, John is Black, six feet tall, and weighs 190 pounds. When he was last spotted, he was wearing a dark gray knit hat, black jacket or sweatshirt, black pants, and black Nike sneakers, and may have been carrying two backpacks.

Anyone with information has been asked to call either 911 or the East Hampton Town Police Department at 631-459-7575.

Originally, Jan. 19: Multiple police agencies in the New York region are searching for a 15-year-old boy from East Hampton, who has autism and has been missing since Wednesday morning. At midday on Thursday, he was believed to be using public transportation somewhere near Manhattan.

John Gray is Black, six feet tall, and weighs 190 pounds. He was last seen on Three Mile Harbor Drive at 8:45 on Wednesday morning, wearing a dark gray knit hat, black jacket or sweatshirt, black pants, and black Nike sneakers. He may be carrying two black backpacks.
