Amagansett

A woman at the train station reported “an older man making eye contact” with her on Friday evening and walking around her car. Eventually, she told police, he attempted to open her locked car door. Police could not find him.

 

East Hampton Village

Police stopped some Halloween mischief at Herrick Park last Thursday night, in which teenagers were using shaving cream to disturb passers-by. Officers dispersed the group and confiscated the shaving cream.

 

Northwest Harbor

On Friday night someone called from Barcelona Point to report an overturned vessel out on the water. Officers arrived to find a good Samaritan in a small boat assisting a kayaker to shore.

 

Montauk

Police arrived at the train station Monday morning to conduct a wellness check on a man reported to be sleeping there. After being awakened, he told them he was waiting for the next train, due in an hour. Not only was he in good health, the officer reported, but also “good spirits.”

A woman stopped an officer on patrol near the visitors center on Halloween night about a man approaching young girls and making “inappropriate comments.” The officer found the man and warned him to stop. He complied and left the area.

After a caller reported “suspicious activity” at the skatepark on the morning of Oct. 26, police went there and spoke to the park’s director, who said he was spraying a “non-toxic substance” to preserve the concrete.

 

Springs

A Glade Road girl reported a TikTok fraud scheme at around midnight on Halloween after receiving a message about a possible job. The caller became “demanding,” she told police, asking for bank and other personal information. Police advised her to block the number and inform her bank.

Someone stole a plaster elephant statue from outside the front door of an apartment on Montauk Highway in Amagansett. The resident told police that she had an idea of who stole the statue, but the accused denied taking it.

911 Switch Is Delayed

When contract negotiations for 911 dispatching broke down between East Hampton Town and Village last spring, it became clear that the East Hampton Town Police Department would begin taking the bulk of 911 calls in the township from the village. The turnover was to occur on Jan. 1, but it has now been delayed for at least a month.

“Unwanted guests” were trying to take his belongings and refusing to leave, a Brandywine Drive, Sag Harbor, resident reported to 911 last Thursday, adding that one of them wouldn’t wake up and “may have overdosed.”

An 18-year-old was struck by a Honda sedan while crossing Newtown Lane in East Hampton on Saturday evening, near the intersection of Muchmore Lane.
