Mon, 11/11/2024 - 13:01

A Facebook post circulating in the community concerning a lost 2-year-old child is a scam, the East Hampton Town Police Department announced Monday morning.

The post in question shows a picture of a toddler, stating that she was found in East Hampton "one hour ago." The police, it reads, "have no idea where she lives," and it asks Facebook users then to "flood" their feeds to find the family.

Police instructed East Hampton residents to delete the post and refrain from spreading it further. The post is a "phishing scam, posted in hopes to get clicks and possibly spread virus or hack your social media profile," the department cautioned.
