Amagansett

An ocean rescue volunteer pulled two women out of the water at Louse Point on Sunday afternoon. The women told police they’d set out to swim from Louse Point to Gerard Drive but had become “distressed by the current.”

East Hampton

Patrick McCall, an employee of Mahoney Environmental, which picks up used cooking oil from restaurants all over Long Island, reported on July 18 that $425 worth of oil from two local restaurants went missing and that one of the bins used to store oil had been damaged, requiring $862 in repairs. Police continue to investigate the incident as a case of criminal mischief and petty larceny.

Shortly after 11 p.m. Monday, police responded to a strip mall on Montauk Highway, where there was a fight unfolding involving at least six people in front of Chen’s Garden. Officers found a 22-year-old East Hampton man with a black eye, but all parties refused to tell them exactly what had happened.

East Hampton Village

On July 17 at around 8 p.m., “five subjects dressed as sharks” caused a disturbance at the Palm. After chanting “tax the rich!” they left the restaurant and were seen getting into a Volvo and driving away.

Multiple passengers aboard a coach bus found their belongings missing from the cargo hold last Thursday afternoon when the bus stopped on Main Street. The driver told police there had been a mixup and the missing bags would be delivered to the bus stop.

A 60-year-old woman with a Main Street address called police Saturday afternoon to report “too many airplanes flying over her residence.” She was advised to take her complaint to the East Hampton Town Board or airport management.

Montauk

Two men were seen stealing nine cases of White Claw and one case of Montauk Brewing Co. seltzers from the Montauk Beer and Soda store on South Elmwood Avenue on the afternoon of July 9.

Two guests of the Montauk Marram hotel reported thefts earlier this month. Lauren Jacobson of Scarsdale, N.Y., told police on July 12 that a pair of valuable diamond stud earrings went missing from her belongings sometime between July 2 and July 4, when she spent the holiday weekend here. Around the same time, Enrique Silva of East Rutherford, N.J., reported a large sum of cash missing from his wallet.

A Miller Avenue homeowner called on the morning of July 19 to say that a stranger had parked a white 2013 Audi in his driveway. Police questioned the car’s owner, a 50-year-old man from Toronto, who said he’d parked there because he couldn’t find any street parking. He was told that he “cannot park his vehicle in random residential driveways.”

Later that day, on South Emerson Road, an officer’s license-plate scanner turned up a plate that had been reported stolen from a New York City address, on an otherwise unregistered car. The officer recovered the license plate, which has been provided to the N.Y.P.D.

Last Thursday evening, after lifeguards had hung up their whistles for the day, police got a call about a possible swimmer or surfer in distress near the Ditch Plain jetty. Officers responded with high-powered flashlights and a drone to search the area. All swimmers and surfers were accounted for.

Sag Harbor

The manager of eLTacobar, a new restaurant on Main Street, reported $9,500 missing from the safe on the afternoon of July 17. The money was last seen on July 14 at around 6 p.m., police were told. An investigation is ongoing.

Five teens were spotted on the roof of a commercial building on Bay Street on the evening of July 15, and graffiti was later discovered there.

Jay Bialski, the owner and an occupant of the new condominium buildings on West Water Street, was having dinner on his patio Saturday night when he saw a drone “with a bright light” hovering about 10 feet above his table. Mr. Bialsky told police he followed the drone to a parking lot on Rose Street and confiscated it. Its owner later told an officer he didn’t believe his drone had entered “restricted airspace.”

Police got reports of at least four vehicles getting booted last week in the Water Street Shops parking lot. The lot is privately owned and has signs stating “30-minute customer parking only.”

On Monday morning, the crew of a yacht called Club B, docked at Long Wharf, accidentally set off a distress flare. Responding to the flare, which burst into a big cloud of orange smoke, the harbormaster confirmed it was inadvertent and stayed on the scene until the smoke cleared.

Springs

On Saturday around 5 p.m., police responded to Three Mile Harbor-Hog Creek Road near Gardiner Avenue after getting a report of juveniles throwing water balloons at passing cars. The kids were gone by the time officers arrived.

Wainscott

Responding to a July 17 late-night call about illegal shellfishing at Georgica Pond, an officer came upon two Stony Brook men, who, she reported, had a bucket of undersize crabs and lacked a town shellfishing permit. She wrote three tickets, including a parking ticket, and returned the crabs to the water. On Sunday night, police caught three more poachers, two local men and one from Queens. All were ticketed.

Village's Newest Cop Is 'One of Our Own'

A smattering of news involving the village's Police and Emergency Services Departments came out of an East Hampton Village Board meeting that was otherwise focused on avoiding the need for residents to call the police for noise complaints in the historic district.

Late-Night Crash Seriously Injures East Hampton Woman

A 27-year-old East Hampton woman was injured overnight when she crashed her car into a tree on Three Mile Harbor-Hog Creek Road, East Hampton Town police said Thursday morning.

On the Police Logs 04.18.24

On Pantigo Road near Bostwick’s, a 38-year-old man who appeared to be intoxicated was questioned by police on the afternoon of April 7. He said he wasn’t causing trouble, just canvassing businesses looking for work. Police drove him back to his house. Eight days before, the same man had been seen opening a storage shed and walk-in cooler behind Rowdy Hall in Amagansett, and he was later accused of taking 20 containers of beer and four containers of iced tea. According to the official report, petty larceny charges may be pending.
