On Monday afternoon, just as the Springs School was dismissing students, there was a robbery in the vicinity. East Hampton Town police have reported only that a white man, possibly armed, entered the victim's vehicle and "forcibly" stole money.

Police described the man as about five-foot-five inches tall, dressed in camouflage. The victim has not been identified.

Police brought in the Southampton Village Police Department K-9 unit and also called in support from a Suffolk County helicopter in the search for the suspect, who was reported to have fled the area on foot down Shipyard Lane.

The man was not found.

"We appreciate the cooperation of Springs School staff, students and parents," Chief Michael Sarlo said in an email. "The investigation is ongoing and we have no further details to release at this time. Anyone with information is asked to contact the EHTPD Detective division at 537-7575."
