Two pedestrians were taken by ambulance to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital Sunday afternoon following an accident on Main Street in East Hampton.

Isabel Silva of East Hampton, driving a 2016 Mazda, was headed north in the left lane, she told village police, when "two pedestrians ran out into the roadway from in between two parked cars on the east side of the road, causing her to strike them."

The two, from New York City and Water Mill, told police "they thought they had time to cross, but underestimated the distance and speed of the vehicle." Police, who had not identified either of them as of press time, also reported that they said "they knew they should have used the crosswalk." One was treated at the hospital for hip and upper leg pain, and the other for minor facial bleeding. Both have since been released.

Another accident involving injury happened on March 8, when Natalie Mattson of East Hampton, 46, driving a 2017 Cadillac, turned left from Toilsome Lane onto Montauk Highway and collided with a 1998 GMC pickup driven by Michael Lester, 36, of Hampton Bays. Ms. Mattson, who told village police she did not see the pickup coming, complained of a possible lower right arm fracture and was taken to the hospital for treatment. Both drivers claimed that the light at the lane's intersection with the highway was green for them.

State Route 27 in Montauk was an unlucky spot for deer last week. Run-ins occurred at 8:30 p.m. on March 8 near Beech Street, and at about the same time the next day near Upland Road. Not far away on Napeague, near Marlin Drive, another animal was struck last Thursday evening.

911 Switch Is Delayed

When contract negotiations for 911 dispatching broke down between East Hampton Town and Village last spring, it became clear that the East Hampton Town Police Department would begin taking the bulk of 911 calls in the township from the village. The turnover was to occur on Jan. 1, but it has now been delayed for at least a month.
