Seeking a Fishing Rod Thief

East Hampton Town police detectives and Suffolk County Crime Stoppers are searching for a man who stole four custom Capt. Neil Faulkner fishing rods from a boat docked at West Lake Marina on Aug. 26 at approximately 3:10 a.m.

The fishing rods are valued at nearly $5,600, so the incident is being investigated as grand larceny. The rods have gold reels and the phrase "Reel Busy" printed on them along with a first name.

Police described the suspect as white or Hispanic with a mustache and goatee, and said he fled in a white pickup truck, possibly a Nissan Frontier.

A cash reward is being offered by Crime Stoppers for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information has been asked to call 1-800-220-TIPS. Tips can also be submitted using the website P3Tips.com or a mobile app called Crime Alert, which can be downloaded online. Crime Stoppers keeps all calls, text messages, and emails confidential.

No crime was committed on Aug. 12 on Front Street in Springs, where police responded to a report that a man was holding a shotgun. Police said it was in fact a BB gun, which the man told them he uses to scare off squirrels and other small animals.
