Tickets for Dogs on Beach

Thu, 05/23/2019 - 07:22

East Hampton Village police have continued to crack down on dogs on the beach when they are not supposed to be, issuing eight summonses over the weekend to seven dog walkers. Three of those ticketed were from East Hampton; the other four from out of town.

The first ticket was issued Friday morning at Main Beach to a woman whose dog was unleashed in the restricted area, according to police. On Friday evening, a ticket went to a man who “failed to comply with local leash law” on Main Beach.

The first ticket on Saturday was issued in the evening, when a woman was charged with having a dog on Main Beach during prohibited hours. A man received a ticket there for the same violation shortly thereafter. The final ticket Saturday evening charged a man with walking his dog without a leash in a restricted area on Georgica Beach.

Late Sunday morning, a man received two tickets, charged with having a “dog on beach after 9 a.m. as well as unleashed dog in the restricted area.” Apparently, one dog can be the source of two offenses, whereas multiple dogs can add up to only one violation. The final ticket on Sunday was written for a woman who had more than one dog on Two Mile Hollow Beach during restricted hours.
