Thu, 05/23/2019 - 06:37

The disappearance of a masonry saw from the roadside on Church Street in East Hampton Village on May 7 led to the arrest of Jan R. Gutierrez of Springs on a charge of grand larceny.

After receiving a report that a wet saw had gone missing that afternoon from outside a jobsite, police reviewed a surveillance video provided by a Church Lane neighbor. In it, they saw an older green Dodge Ram that they suspected was involved in the incident. Two village detectives located the Dodge and questioned Mr. Gutierrez, 41, who had been driving it. He reportedly told them he had taken the saw and put it in the back of the truck before driving away.

The detectives arrested Mr. Gutierrez and took him to their Cedar Street headquarters, where he was held overnight before being released on $3,000 bail, which his family put up following his Tuesday morning arraignment.

He was charged with misdemeanor drug possession and released on $100 station house bail with a ticket to appear in court at a future date.
