Pot in the Spare Tire Well

A Queens resident was found on Sunday with 45 grams of marijuana in his car during a traffic stop in Amagansett.

Sean N. Robinson, 31, was driving a 2009 Toyota Camry on Montauk Highway near Abram’s Landing Road at about 11:40 in the morning when East Hampton Town police noticed a broken taillight and pulled him over. After smelling marijuana in the car they searched it, and reported finding a sealed plastic bag in the spare tire well of the trunk, with a green, leafy substance inside that later tested positive for the presence of marijuana. Its weight was 45 grams. 

Because the quantity was more than 25 grams, Mr. Robinson was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor. Police also found that his New York State license had been suspended five times in April for failure to answer a summons in Queens County, and had not been restored. He was additionally charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree, another misdemeanor.

Mr. Robinson was released on $100 bail. He is scheduled for arraignment in East Hampton Town Justice Court on May 30.

A Freeport man was charged with resisting arrest and harassment during a 

domestic dispute on South Embassy Street in Montauk Friday night. Police said Janus Childress Jr., 41, grabbed a woman’s arms with both hands and pushed her numerous times, causing pain and bruising. When police tried to handcuff him he pulled his arms away and resisted. It took three officers to subdue him. 

He was charged with resisting arrest, a misdemeanor, and second-degree harassment, a violation. Justice Steven Tekulsky released him on $500 bail the next day.

Two men were charged Saturday with having forged inspection stickers on their cars. Police said Mauricio David Arriaga-Velasquez, 52, was driving a 2007 Dodge on Old Montauk Highway, near Tyler Road in Montauk, at about 6:30 p.m., when he was stopped. Police found the sticker on the Dodge was for a 2003 Chevrolet. He was released on his own recognizance with an order to appear in court for arraignment on May 29.

Christian A. Vasquez-Rios, 26, of Springs was also charged on Saturday, at about 4:40 p.m. Police stopped his 2004 Nissan Frontier on Montauk Highway, near Georgica Road in East Hampton, and reported that its inspection sticker was for a 2006 Toyota Avalon. He was released on his own recognizance and will appear in court on May 29.

A Barry Lane, Springs, man told police that someone claiming to be from Amazon had called him in regard to a $996 charge on his account for an iPhone 16. When he said he didn’t have an Amazon account, he was transferred to someone who identified himself as a Social Security employee, accused him of money laundering, and told him to expect a call from Nassau County police.
