Amagansett

Four storage bins containing clothing at St. Michael’s Windmill Housing complex were rifled through at some point over the past couple of months, Herme Barbagallo told police on Feb. 13. The bins were stored in a common area in the cellar that the seven other residents in the building also have access to. Shoes and items of clothing were stolen, the victim reported.

A stop sign and two small boulders lining the internal roadway at the Amagansett I.G.A. Super Saver were found knocked over early Friday morning, blocking the roadway. Luis Torres told police he was not sure if it was an accident that had occurred overnight, or if it was deliberate vandalism. Police checked a surveillance video and discovered that a pickup truck with out-of-state plates was the culprit, in an apparent accident, and are investigating.

East Hampton Village

A call to police reporting a 2005 Toyota Solara convertible being driven erratically in the westbound lane on Montauk Highway was received the afternoon of Valentine’s Day. An officer spotted the vehicle as it came to a stop in the turning lane at the intersection of Main Street and Newtown Lane. The driver of the Toyota got out of his car, walked over to the patrol car, and asked the officer for directions to the East Hampton Veterinary Group animal hospital. The man told the officer that he was “very concerned about the well-being of his dog that is being kept at the vet group,” the report said. The officer concluded that the driver had committed no infractions, and escorted the man to the facility.

An Apple laptop on loan to a production company filming at an East Hollow Road residence disappeared from there sometime between Jan. 30 and Feb. 6. The employee of the production company, not named in the report, told police when he made the report on Feb. 14 that he did not want to press charges, but needed to have the incident documented. The laptop was valued at almost $1,800.

An Ocean Avenue resident called police Friday evening after she received an obscene text message from a number she was not familiar with. The caller told police she was concerned “due to recent events involving mass shootings,” the report said. Police advised the woman to block the number, to prevent a repeat of the incident.

Police ticketed Diane Saatchi of the Saunders and Associates real estate firm late Sunday morning, alleging that the driveway sign advertising an open house sign at a remodeled circa-1920s residence on Montauk Highway was larger than village code allows.

Montauk

A case of shoplifting at the 7-Eleven was investigated by police Sunday evening. A witness told police that a man had left the store with a package of Dorito’s, a granola bar, and a six-pack of Montauk I.P.A. beer without paying. Police checked the store’s surveillance system. The suspect can be seen arriving in the parking lot in a sports-utility vehicle, possibly a Dodge Durango, according to the incident report. However, when he exited the store, he did not get back into the vehicle, but walked east down Main Street. The vehicle is then seen pulling out and heading east, as well. Police are investigating.

Wainscott

A Kamikoto Kanpeki knife set was delivered to a Knoll Lane residence by the United Parcel Service on Feb. 9, and was left by the delivery person at the front entrance. When the homeowner, Douglas Carey, arrived the next day, however, the package was gone. He told police that he had purchased the set on Amazon for $1,295. It is the second time in the past year he has had a package stolen from his entranceway.

Employees of Montauk's Memory Motel called police at 1:25 a.m. Saturday to have a man “known to them to have no money” removed from the bar. The man had been refusing to leave, but complied when the request came from an officer. He promised to take a train or bus back home to Brooklyn, but showed up a couple of hours later at 7-Eleven, attempting to use “multiple bank cards” to pay for merchandise. He was also said to have made “a threatening statement,” and was taken in the end to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital for evaluation.

On April 30, police got a call from a passer-by about “a male subject opening doors with a crowbar” at the Sands Motel. Upon investigation, it was learned that the man was an employee performing renovations and maintenance. “The salt air environment often causes the door locks to freeze, therefore he has to force the doors open with a bar,” officers reported.
