Richard Lawler, right, the East Hampton Village police commissioner, welcomed Brendan Wirth into the village’s Police Department as a full-time officer.

Brendan Wirth, a part-time officer with the East Hampton Village Police Department, was designated a full-time officer on Friday. At its final meeting of the year, the village board and Chief Michael Tracey held a brief ceremony to welcome Officer Wirth to full-time status.

A 2003 graduate of East Hampton High School, Mr. Wirth earned a degree in environmental science from Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania, Chief Tracey said. “He’s been with us for two consecutive summers. He’s done very well, and he’s been welcomed by the staff. He’s very well liked; he’s doing a good job. We’re very proud of him.”

“It’s always a great pleasure for us to welcome a new member into our village family,” the board’s Richard Lawler, who is also the police commissioner, said. “I’ve heard nothing but good things about Officer Wirth. He’s already gotten the respect of his peers through his hard work and his sound judgment. I have every expectation that that will continue.”
