35 Truck Safety Summonses

Thu, 05/23/2019 - 06:33

Sag Harbor Village police assisted the State Department of Transportation in conducting safety checks on 22 commercial vehicles last Thursday.

Chief Austin McGuire said village police set up an area to check trucks at Havens Beach starting at about 7:30 a.m. Police pulled trucks over throughout the village and directed them to the beach for the inspections.

By day’s end, police wrote 35 summonses after inspectors found safety violations, for instance bald tires, and 17 trucks were taken out of service because of the severity of the violations found. Among the most egregious was that one truck was towing a machine that was 1,000 pounds heavier than allowed.

“The commercial enforcement division takes these very seriously,” Chief McGuire said.
