Leo L. Snyder, a carpenter and 35-year employee of the East Hampton Village Department of Public Works, died at home in East Hampton last Thursday. Mr. Snyder, who had a heart ailment, was 78.
A resident of Hand’s Creek Road for more than 50 years, he loved nature, metal detecting, carpentry, and spending time with his grandchildren, his wife, Darlene Snyder, said. He retired in 2008.
Born on Aug. 26, 1947, in Southampton to Leroy Snyder and the former Minnie Nelson, he grew up in East Hampton, and he and the former Darlene Reney were married on July 12, 1969.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Snyder is survived by two children, Lori Snyder Stumpf and Mindy Snyder, both of East Hampton. Five grandchildren also survive: Casey Stumpf, Samantha Stumpf, Sierra Stumpf, Tyler Plambeck, and Joseph Plambeck, all of East Hampton. He leaves eight nieces and nephews. A brother, Harold Snyder, died before him.
A graveside service was held on Sunday at Cedar Lawn Cemetery.
