July 31, 1943 - Feb. 22, 2024

Barbara Ann Anderson of East Hampton “was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother,” her family wrote. They described her as “an exemplary human being” whose “Christian faith was second to none.”

“Barbara embodied the best qualities of unconditional love, strength of spirit, faith, and an unending generosity and kindness that could always be seen. She never complained and always inquired about others.”

Mrs. Anderson died at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital on Feb. 22 of complications related to surgery in December. She was 80.

She worked as a telephone switchboard operator here and later as a secretary for the accounting firm Markowitz, Preische, Stevens, and Rose.

Born in Queens on July 31, 1943, to George Fraser and the former Gloria Perkins, she grew up in East Hampton, graduating from high school here in 1961. She and Robert (Fred) Anderson were married on Oct. 19 of that year. They settled here, raising a daughter and two sons.

Mrs. Anderson enjoyed spending time with friends, and especially cherished her weekly dinners with them, her daughter, Deneen Anderson of Buffalo, said.

Her husband died in 2012. In addition to her daughter, she is survived by her sons, Kenny Anderson and Robert Anderson of East Hampton. She leaves five grandchildren, Mellisa Anderson, R.J. Anderson, Justice Anderson, Kailey Anderson, and Emily Anderson. A sister, Judy Davis, died before her.

She was buried at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in East Hampton.
